I had spent the morning in Bury St. Edmunds and decided to find a country pub for a meal. I remembered seeing a pub on the A134 south of Bury so I headed in that direction. A mile or two outside Bury I found it. The Rushbrooke arms.
Plenty of car parking facilities and plenty of cars parked. A good sign.
Because the sun was shining there were a few people sat in the garden or on the terrace in front of the pub., even if it was still a bit chilly. There was an entrance door to the pub and another that said, "exit only" (possibly a relic of the times). On the corner of the building was a wooden facade with a notice "diners only". I went in this latter entrance but walked to the bar. Meals were being served there where I felt more comfortable as I was dining alone.
I ordered a cheap and cheerful beef and ale pie which came with chips and peas, although I could have chosen something a bit more exotic. The pie was washed down with a pint of St. Austell Tribute ale. All very enjoyable.
The service was efficient and the staff friendly.
