Details: An old haunt of mine, revived after a long absence from the area. There were plenty of cars in the car park that suggested the place was popular and that proved to be the case.

The pub has been extended over the years and, despite this, the olde worlde charms still exist. Being on my own, finding a table could have been difficult, but the staff were accommodating and friendly.

I ordered Venison Cottage Pie topped with parsnip mash and served with perfectly cooked vegetables. This was washed down with a pint of Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker, a nicely balanced real ale.

The pub is situated at the mouth of the River Deben and a walk around the area will be richly rewarded.
